TASTEMAKER INTERVIEW: TASTEMAKER: MICHAEL WILLIAMS OF A CONTINUOUS LEAN.

TASTEMAKER: Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean.

Hello my name is...

Michael Williams

I represent...

Oxford cloth wearing, tweed loving, cordovan stepping, sartorial gentlemen that appreciate certain old things and some new things too.

The reason that you are reading about me is...

Because of the internaughts. I have a blogue called A Continuous Lean. (www.acontinuouslean.com)

Right now I'm working on...

A few different things, but nothing earth shattering.

I am inspired by...

Specifically, Glen O'Brien, who runs Interview Magazine. His style is the perfect combination of old and new. He mixes genres and brands. Great stuff.

I can not live without...

Something trivial, The History Channel. No wait, Mexican soda — Jarittos. Yeah, Mexican soda for sure.

I love...

Things with no obsolescence. Take for instance a Mackintosh coat, never goes out of style. That is what great about men's fashion. If you wear classic pieces, you never go out of style and your old photos look really cool.

Dressing for cold weather. I love when it is about 20 degrees outside and I am fully layered up. I wear a Barbour coat (Bedale) from start of fall to spring. That is something I love. Fuck the summer and fuck shorts. New York in the fall is basically the best thing in the world.

My favorite brands are...

J. Press, Alden, Brooks Brothers, Barbour, Hunter Boots, Southwick, A.P.C., Turnbull & Asser, Engineered Garments, LL Bean, Rogues Gallery, Jean Shop, Sperry Top-Sider, Norton & Sons, Alexander Olch, band of Outsiders.

You need to listen to...

The Black Keys. I have been fully obsessed with them for a while. Saw them at McCarren this summer and they killed it. Akron, Ohio represent!

I would love to give a shout out to...

Jeff Carvalho from Selectism (www.selectism.com) and Cory from Valet (www.valetmag.com)

MEN.STYLE.COM KICKS IT WITH A CONTINUOUS LEAN

Men.Style.com recently chatted with Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean about blogging, how to decide what to cover, what he's into, and why he doesn't talk about bad clothing. This is a short, sweet and powerful read. I'm a fan of his site, and respect his taste and style. Peep game.

Q: You work at your own PR firm by day. What made you take up blogging as a hobby?

A: There are a lot of great women's-style blogs, but men are underrepresented. Everything was either super-straight—about cars, drills, outdoor grilling equipment, or other shit I don't care about—or it was just too gay. I wanted to have a mix. It's for the guy who likes to buy certain labels, but it's not that serious.

Q: What are you into right now?

A: Rolled pants, bow ties . . . What's happening in menswear with all of this tailored and preppy stuff is pretty amazing. Fall is only going to have more of the plaids and classic American looks. D&G's fall collection is so American-looking. To see the Italians being influenced by American menswear is amazing. I'm totally digging it—my style is pretty classic and I'm pretty conservative about what I wear. I hope it lasts for a while so I'll be cool for a little bit longer.
