The Wrinkles of the City, Havana Cuba

Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery is pleased to present The Wrinkles of the City, Havana, Cuba, a recent collaboration between JR and José Parlá.
The Wrinkles of the City was started by JR in Cartagena, Spain and has been reprised in Shanghai, Los Angeles, and most recently, Havana. In 2012, JR and Parlá photographed and interviewed dozens of senior citizens who lived through the Cuban revolution, flyposting colossal black-and-white portraits of their subjects on the walls of city buildings. Parlá, who is of Cuban descent, interlaces the images with palimpsestic, calligraphic writings and color. In a city devoid of commercial imagery, JR and Parlá’s enormous yet intimate portraits offer a stunningly humane contrast to the endless repetition of political icons.
This exhibition will consist of twelve large portraits from the Havana iteration of The Wrinkles of the City project along with a site-specific installation.
Last night was epic. I was at the W Times Square in their newly renovated Extreme WOW Suite on the 57th floor for Boiler Room enjoying amazing tunes. I got there a bit late and the suite was overcapacity but luckily for me, the lovely Sydney Reising saved me.
Upon entering the super-packed-humungous-suite, you feel the amazingness in the hot-sweaty-filled-room, Brenmar was playing Pour it Up by Rihanna as people were dancing away in one room while in another, a flurry of feathers filled the air as a pillow fight broke out (throw it up, throw it up).
Solange did her thing, keeping the crowd moving and Camron came in and killed it, killa!
I feel so lucky to be invited to a private event at The Reed Space where Jeff Staple was conducting his infamous 1-2-1 interviews, this time it was with the legendary Walt "Clyde" Frazier in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Puma Clyde. He spoke about how his sneaker collaboration came about, basketball, fashion and even left us with his keys for success. Much Respect.
P.S. I will be sharing the 1-2-1 video when it comes out, so you guys can be inspired.
