TASTEMAKER: Rasu Jilani of Coup d'etat Brooklyn

Hello my name is...

Rasu Jilani aka The Guerilla Dun

I represent...

coup d'etat Brooklyn & The Coup d'etat Art Collective...Creators. People who are about change and constant elevation.

The reason that you are reading about me is...

Because I "live to change something!" Also, I told Will I'd put him in a headlock if he didn't put the Fam on his site :-D

Right now I'm working on...

Changing the world & peoples views by making bold statements through art & fashion. Our generation is witnessing a very important time in our history: A Black Man is a front runner for presidency. A woman is a running mate for vice presidency. Wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Yet, I find brands, artists, and so-called tastemakers tend to shed light on insubstantial things. I feel its imperative to commentate, participate or draw inspiration from what is going on around us - not just uncreative hip hop quotes.

With that said, right now our brand is collaborating with people and other brands, who are bringing about the change necessary to make our society a better place. So stay tuned for what's to come from Coup d'etat Brooklyn.

I am inspired by...

My peers and the whole world around me. I think, often too many times we look for inspiration outside of our family and friends. We look outward for idols, instead of inward for mentors or peers who can motivate us to be great. Find the "diamond in your acre" as the great Earl Nightingale once said.

I can not live without...

Music. Family. Peace. Love. And Inspiration.

I love...

Coming up with new ideas and executing them to success. Spending time with family and close friends. Going away on vacation somewhere I've never been before.

My favorite brands are...

Coup d'etat Brooklyn for its statements, Ralph Lauren's classic look, Paul Smith for gentleman wear, Uniqlo for the basics, Brooklyn Circus, Goliath for hats and kicks, and Still-Life for custom made hats.

You need to listen to...

Game Rebellion, One Day As a Lion, Rage Against the Machine, Queens of the Stoneage, when I'm on my rock 'ish. On the alternative tip, Kenna, Saul Williams, M. Island, and when you get a chance check out Earl NightinGale for inspiration and motivation.

I would love to give a shout out to...
